Why accountants are in “hot demand” post-pandemic

An extensive study by Robert Half International, a global human resource consulting firm based in California which is credited as being the world’s first and largest accounting and finance staffing firm, has found that this is a great time to enter the accountancy field. This may seem strange given the disruption caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic, however, Robert Half’s extensive study has indicated that accountants are due to be in “hot demand” as the world looks toward normality.

The outlook for this field is strong and jobseekers in this profession are finding themselves increasingly sought after.

Why the increased demand?

The recent rise in demand can be largely attributed to several reasons, per Robert Half’s study. Firstly, there has been a notable increase in retirees. Those who have worked in the field for many years now moving on and leaving space for young people to move into their roles.

Globalisation has also been noted as a factor regarding the increase in demand for accountants. Globalisation involves the spread of products, services, technology, information, and job roles across different nations, creating more ties between countries across the globe. Naturally, this can open new opportunities for international business relationships and trade.

After the shock caused to almost every country in the world by the COVID-19 Pandemic, many countries are starting to experience tentative economic growth, and businesses are showing signs of life once again. Naturally, economic growth and businesses beginning to experience some success, will mean more work for accountants and other finance professionals.

Those of us in the UK know all too well how often tax and regulatory guidelines can be changed, and this has never happened more often than it does now. This is often the case in all the countries of the world, and it is necessary for people to keep up to date with these changes to remain compliant.

However, most people who must follow these guidelines are generally busy and would prefer to have someone do this for them. This is where accountants come in, and as rules and regulations are updated more frequently, so the demand for knowledgeable finance professionals grows.

A great time for accountants

In summary, the post-pandemic world is a great time to be an accountant or to be entering the accountancy profession. There are plenty of fantastic jobs to be had in a thriving industry.
