Trust strong post-COVID

A study by Chartered Accountants Worldwide and Edelman Data and Intelligence has found that accountancy is perceived as one of the most trustworthy fields to work in. The research was conducted following the onset of the pandemic and indicates that the effects of COVID-19 have not limited the trust in accountants, as it may have those in other sectors.

Who was surveyed?

1,450 business decision-makers were surveyed to determine what professions were deemed to be the most trustworthy. Those found to be most trusted were doctors, engineers, nurses, and teachers.

However, accountants polled just behind these professionals and ranked ahead of bankers, financial advisors, economists, and insurance brokers.

Why are we so trusted?

The chairman of Chartered Accountants Worldwide Michael Izza said regarding the study “Chartered accountants are the first port of call for many businesses and saved many livelihoods during the pandemic. Over the next ten years, chartered accountants will play a leading role in tackling critical problems including climate change, which is one of the biggest challenges humanity has faced. As problem solvers, chartered accountants can be counted on to find solutions to the world’s most complex economic and moral issues, including global warming and net-zero.”

A whopping 80% of respondents surveyed believe chartered accountants have the skills and expertise to make business thrive and 81% are confident in chartered accountants’ ability to navigate the new post-COVID world.

Furthermore, 70% of respondents believe that chartered accountants are credible voices in relation to societal issues, such as sustainability, diversity, equality, and inclusivity.
